tell me how hard the grammar gets. i know for a fact the writing/speaking has GOT to be hard, esp. for americans, but i've never taken into consideration the grammar of Japanese (or Chinese... hmm).

lol oh yea, the reason i brought this up is because there are italian exchange students at my school, and because i'm in AP english & my teacher is the director of all the italian exchange stuff... i have to help the people out. v.V' no freaking clue if they understood me or not.

Studying Japanese should make the interpretation of anime shows much more enjoyable... Often, we lose the meaning of certain words and phrases because of cultural differences in translation. Take, for example, The Iliad or the New Testament or ANYTHING translated into a foreign language. Sometimes, "agape" is used and other times, "philo" is used to describe love. To the Greeks, "agape" is a more divine love but was not so until post-800BC. Then there's "philo" which is NOT the same as sexual love, but instead a "friendly" love, which can also describe romantic relationships (adding to a greater understanding of the Greeks' more broad acceptance of homosexuality than, perhaps, it is today...). I know. I'm a geek, but i love it. ^^

no. why do you think we take English? It's just extensive studies in the language. You always have room for improvement.

Rawr. @cat-chan; Japanese is okay. Not really hard (probably because it's Japanese 1 but..). I feel the hard stuff coming next semster, learning kanji O__0;;; Nya, there's a lot of particles. And the funny thing is they don't say present tense. It's past and non-past. Like it's weird because you have to interpet it in someway. xP Like for instance: If you wanna say "At home, my family eats oatmeal everyday." If you read it the literal meaning is "In my house, (either My family and I or my family, depends on what you write) everyday, eats oatmeal." Gets confusing once in a while xS. But seriously, Lots of particles. LOADS of PARTICLES. x__X;; I'm not even going to bother with Mandarin. The way you speak it is way different than how you write it. Confusing. xD And I'm chinese xD I'm fine with Cantonese (Speaking only though) So right now, I'm trying a little Korean. Getting nowhere though. xD

No present! How bizarre! lol!!!
My Chinese friend is fluent in Mandarin. He's the smartest person I know, and he says it's hard. Like hell I'm taking Mandarin. x) (which is actually offered at my school, which is a surprise. haha. but from what i've heard, i don't want to take it).
Japanese almost sounds like Greek. A lot of the time, you have to supply verbs and adjectives ... and sometimes nouns... And EVERY time, the word order is completely different from what you would expect in English. It's why I would make a very bad Japanese or Greek. =p

Take French if you're required to take a language. Spanish is a lot like it, but not as challenging (in my opinion... *cough*). It's just ... French is notorious for its advanced grammar. Lots of conjugations & declensions, I'm guessing.
Plus, it's a beautiful language. (:0

French- The language of love. Yes, taking a language will be required at some point.

How many years? For some schools it's 1, for others it's 2 (of the same language), & for a few toughies...it's 3 or 4. For mine, it's 2. I wasted them on Latin, lol.
